Lychnos terms of use

These terms govern the use of the Lychnos app, published by GABRIEL RIGON TECNOLOGIA LTDA, CNPJ 33.908.632/0001-07, Av. Saúde, 555, Saúde, Mogi Mirim/SP, CEP 13800-700, Brasil ("we"). By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. What Lychnos is

Lychnos is a Stoic philosophy journal. It brings one passage a day from Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus and Seneca, with the original Greek or Latin, a reflection on the reading and a space to write or record your own reflections.

2. Not a substitute for professional advice

Lychnos content is philosophical and educational. It does not replace medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. If you need emotional support or health care, reach out to a professional or to a health or support service in your country.

3. Age

Lychnos is rated for ages 12 and up (13+ on the App Store). Minors should use the app with the knowledge of their parents or guardians.

4. Free version and Lychnos Complete

  • Free version: the line of the day, the days since installation, the morning and end-of-day notifications and 3 reflections a week, with no expiry while the app is available in the stores. During the first 7 days after installation, all features are unlocked at no cost and with no automatic charge.
  • Lychnos Complete: a one-time purchase, with no subscription, that unlocks every day of the year, unlimited written and spoken reflections, chosen times and private sync. At the end of the 7 days, the app may show a special price for a limited time, with the end date and time shown on screen.
  • Tips: optional contributions that do not unlock features.

Purchases are processed by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google) under their terms and refund policies, including any withdrawal rights granted by consumer law. Refund requests must be made to the store where the purchase was made. To restore a purchase on another device, use "Restore purchases" in the app with the same store account.

5. Your data and your content

Your reflections are yours. They stay on your device, encrypted, and in your own cloud if you turn on sync, as explained in the Privacy policy. You are responsible for keeping your device secure and for keeping a copy if you wish (through sync or export). Without sync, losing the device means losing the data, and we cannot recover it.

6. App content

  • The English translations by George Long (1862 and 1877) and Aubrey Stewart (1889) are in the public domain.
  • The Portuguese and Spanish translations and the reflections on the reading are our own and protected by copyright.
  • The original Greek and Latin texts are adapted from the digital editions of the Perseus Digital Library under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license and remain distributed under the same license, with the attribution and modifications described on the About screen.
  • The typefaces use the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

You may share lines with the app's share feature. Copying the protected content as a whole to redistribute or sell it is not allowed.

7. Permitted use

You receive a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the app on your devices, under the rules of the store where you got it. You may not decompile, modify or redistribute the app, except where the law allows it.

8. Availability and warranties

We do our best for the app to work well, but it is provided as is, without a guarantee of uninterrupted operation. We may update, change or discontinue features. Nothing in these terms limits the rights that consumer protection law in your country grants you.

9. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages arising from the use of the app, or for the loss of data kept only on the device. This does not exclude our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.

10. Changes

If these terms change, the new version will be published on this page with its update date. Important changes will also be announced in the app.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by Brazilian law. If you are a consumer, the courts of your place of residence and the consumer protection rules of your country apply.
